Planting living willow structures

Living structures

Planting living willow structures is very rewarding and watching them grow and burst into life is amazing! It’s also great fun, and everyone from children to adults love building a beautiful structure.

Living willow structures are built from unrooted rods in the winter months, from December to March, and structures such as arches, tunnels, domes and fences can be constructed.

Get the most out of your outdoor area with a living willow structure; eco-friendly, robust and beautiful, they make beautiful features.

Ways with Willow offers a design and build service for a variety of structures. We also help community groups to develop their outdoor space using living willow structures and run community workshops. A very good way to fund a willow structure is to run a course for community members. Contact us for details.

Volunteering Day

We’re now on full speed decorating and getting our new shop and workshop in The Market House, St Austell ready for it’s launch at the end of August. Once the painting is finished, there’s still a lot to do before we can open!

Every Wednesday, we’re having a volunteer day, where anyone can drop in and lend a hand with a variety of different jobs. Whether you can spare an hour or can spend all day volunteering, your support will be invaluable in helping us to get everything done. There’s a job for everyone, and every task, no matter how small, makes a huge difference to us and is gratefully received. In return for your time we can guarantee plenty of tea and biscuits!!

We had huge support recently at our volunteer open day at Trenython Manor. If you missed the event, you can see some information on it on the Cornish Guardian website by clicking here.

If you’re interested in helping us and can spare some time on a Wednesday, either as a one-off or on a regular basis, email us on or call Sian for a chat on 07712 151875.

Ways with Willow C.I.C is an innovative social enterprise with a passion for providing accessible opportunities throughout the community. We want to produce a range of funky and quirky t-shirts that reflect the passion, enthusiasm and energy of our organisation.

We are holding a T-Shirt Design Competition to find a designer/artist/illustrator who can produce a funky design for us.

We’re not going to tell you what colours to use or how many entries you can submit. We just want you to get creative, have fun and show us what you can come up with! The only requirements are that your design is A4 portrait in size, uses a maximum of four colours (the t-shirt background can be any colour), and incorporates either our logo or the line drawings that form it. You can download these as JPEG’s below:

If you need any help to get you started, just think about Ways with Willow’s aims and what we stand for:

  1.  Passion for creating accessible learning opportunities throughout the community for all.
  2.  Enthusiasm for transferring skills locally and preserving a traditional craft.
  3.  Creating a fun learning environment for everyone regardless of background.

By running a competition to find a design(s), we will create exposure and publicity for emerging and newly established artists and designers and provide opportunities for them to work alongside experienced designers.

Entries are to be submitted by email to in either a jpeg or pdf format. You can enter as many times as you like, but each design must be submitted as a separate entry, and must be accompanied by a completed entry form. You must be aged 18 or over to enter.

The deadline for entries is midnight on the 31st July 2013. The directors and volunteers of Ways with Willow C.I.C will shortlist designs, and those shortlisted will be produced into t-shirts for a community exhibition and vote at the Eden Café, St Austell on Sunday 18th August. The number of winning designs will depend on the public, as all popular designs will be commissioned.

The winning design(s) will be commissioned by Ways with Willow C.I.C for the sum of £175.00, and will be supplied to ‘Friends of Ways with Willow’ and will be sold through our website and at events. The proceeds will support our work with disadvantaged and vulnerable adults and children.
